Author's purpose
The Author, Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, published Highest Duty: My Search For What Really Matter after he landed US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson river without any casualties with help the professional help from his Co-Pilot, Jeffrey B. Skiles. Sully landed the Airbus A320 in the Hudson River on January 15th of 2009. Mr.Sullenberger and his crew managed to evacuate the plane in a matter of minutes. During the evacuation process of flight 1549 there had been some injuries to passengers and one crew member. One of the flight attendants, Doreen Welsh had been cut severely on the leg as she was assisting passengers to the wing door exit. Only two of the passengers had to stay overnight at a hospital, while the majority of others on the plane only suffered from hypothermia. Everyone in the end survived and were thankful to Sully, Jeff, and the flight crew for their professionalism and their ability to get everyone off the aircraft efficiently and with expertise knowledge of the plane.
Flight 1549 is what made Sully start to elevate and look back onto his life causing him to write his own memoir. Captain Sullenberger has always loved flying even since a young age but, he admits that his career as a pilot and his love for flying all comes at a cost. He knows that his career has taken a lot out of his family life because he was always away. Sully would often miss holidays and memorable moments with his wife, Lorrie Sullenger, and his two daughters, Katie and Kelly. Mr.Sullenberger retired on March 3rd, 2010 from Us Airways and loves spending every moment he can with is family. Today, he goes around the country giving speeches at schools and sharing his story but was reported to be hired by CBS News as a Aviation Expert in 2011.
